Esquif

We love our 20’ Miramichi Canoe from Esquif.  We are very grateful to this family-owned company from Quebec for providing our family with a strong, stable canoe that handled the big water of the Great Lakes beautifully.

Northwater

Northwater made the excellent spray deck for our 20 foot Esquif canoe.  The deck is an important part of our safety on big water because not only does it keep waves out of the canoe, but it also reduces wind resistance.

Kokatat

The drysuits from Kokatat were our daily uniforms when we paddled up the coast and on the Fraser River.  They kept us warm and dry during day after day of rain.

Spirit Sail

The Spirit Sail is one of our most beloved pieces of gear.  If there is even a tiny wisp of wind tickling our ears, we put it up.  It is fast to put up, has adjustable angles to capture the wind most efficiently, and is strong.  Can’t say enough great things about it!

Granite Gear

Granite Gear make great canoe packs.  They are strong and functional.  Best of all, their customer service is second to none.

Sierra Designs

We love using Sierra Designs tents and sleeping bags.  They are great quality, durable, and have great designs.  We were especially fond of the Tengu 2 and Tengu 3, and were sorry to hear they discontinued making them.  It was a good design with a handy “Taq-sized” vestibule.  We’d highly recommend their gear to anyone.

Eureka

After we wore out our Sierra Designs Tengu 3 (3 months of daily use is hard on a tent), we couldn’t find a comparable design to replace it with.  We turned to Eureka.  Though we struggled with durability last season, we were so impressed with the customer service we received, that we’ve decided to give it another chance this season.

Filson

Filson makes excellent, durable outdoor clothing.  We are especially fond of our oil finish double tin bibs.  Cooking over fire in cool weather requires pants that are both strong and waterproof.  We practically lived in these pants on the Fraser River.

Schnee’s

Schnee’s Pac boots are excellent for portaging and wearing in camp.  You can choose the height, insulation, and type of boot.  We wear ours year-round.

The Original Muck Boot Company

The Original Muck Boot Company makes very good rubber boots.  They are strong, warm, and comfortable.  We liked them so much that we bought them for my sister and parents.

New Chapter

New Chapter has supported us since the beginning.  We’ve used their multivitamins every day since.

The Wild Coast

The Wild Coast series of books written by John Kimantas were invaluable to us as we set out to paddle from Victoria to Kitimat, BC.  There were many times when inhospitable shore seemed to stretch on for miles.  Fortunately, the books had excellent maps that indicated good campsites where we could take shelter when weather and wind pushed us off for the day.

SF Canoe

Bannock, pizza, cinnamon buns – all luxuries our reflector oven from SF Canoe makes possible.
