We are pleased to announce that we have a new son! Jude Oliver MacDonald joined us at 2:03 am on October 20, 2009. He weighed 7 lbs 11 oz and was 20 inches long. He’s a month old now, and already weighs more 10 lbs 3 oz. He loves to eat!

Jude often sleeps with his hands above his head – almost looks like he’s cheering now that he’s joined the outside world.

Taq is adjusting to the newest member of our “pack” quite well. Minutes after Jude was born, he gave him a big sniff followed by tail wags of approval. He checks up on him frequently. Jude will be safe this summer with Taq around!

We did not paddle this summer, instead we spent the summer in Ontario with Geoff’s family to support Katy (Geoff’s mother) as she battles cancer. She’s doing well. We plan to spend the winter here in Ontario to be with her for the next steps in her treatment. She has been incredibly strong throughout this whole process, facing each step with courage and grace (a great sense of humour helps as well!) She is an inspiration to us all.

What is our plan for next season?

Our plan is to head out from Campbell Dam on Tobin Lake, SK, in May 2010 in our new 20 foot Esquif Miramichi canoe. The larger canoe will ensure both Taq and Jude have enough space to stretch out and enjoy the scenery as we paddle them both the rest of the way across Canada!

Happy Holidays to you and your family. Our next update will come when we depart next May.
